Crank radio solar
Many
people buy solar/crank radios for emergency situations. This makes
sense, because these radios will work, even if there is not power
to connect them too… and you don’t have to worry about
running out of batteries. When the sun is out, you can easily charge
your crank/solar radio by simply leaving it where the sun will hit
it.
If it is nighttime, very cloudy, or you are stuck somewhere dark
(like a tornado shelter, basement, cave, etc.), you can simply use
a hand crank to get your radio to work. In other words, you are
going to be able have a radio, rain or shine, power outage or no.
Many people keep solar radios with crank options with their emergency
kits – after all, it is during blackouts, basic power shortages,
earthquakes, tornadoes, bombings, etc. in which such a radio would
be most useful. It is also a good idea to keep one in your vehicle
in case you are ever stranded.
Of course, the real question is, how is a crank/solar radio going
to help you out in an emergency situation? It is a one-way radio
– you cannot call for help on it! At most, you could turn
it up very loud and hope that someone hears it and finds you.
In general, though, a crank radio/solar powered radio will entertain
you during your long wait for help. You can also hear any important
news broadcasts that may pertain to your situation. Also, it can
be good to keep on top of the weather forecasts.
To make sure your crank radio/solar powered radio is useful as
possible, get one with a flashlight or LED attached.
